Choosing Living Room Furniture

January 30th, 2011

The living room is the part of the house that you usually entertain your guests. For this reason, it is very important that this room is always presentable. The furniture is one feature of the living room that can be easily changed. The following are some tips on choosing the right living room furniture.

Of course, when choosing new living room furniture it goes without saying that you should select a style that would compliment your room as well as giving the room a fresher look. It is imperative to go to a furniture store that has employees that are well-informed about replacing furniture. Thus, you can select the ideal pieces at the same time get the most value for your money.

When you are purchasing furniture replacement sets, it is a good idea to take note of the style of the original furniture so that there would be a seamless transition with the new purchases. Wooden coffee tables and side tables would go well with most design styles but there are a few styles that are not advisable such as the modern which needs metal pieces for accent.

It’s very common among living room furniture stores to have good selections to choose from and have many special offers on hand. The most popular deals are furniture sets. They also offer free delivery or mix and match options. An example of the mix and match options is you can choose one sofa set and then choose a different coffee table and side table set. This can help you achieve a customized look for your living room.

Whether you want to freshen up the drama of the look and feel of a room or replace the old or worn out pieces it is essential to select the items that compliment the general design of the space. There are a lot of furniture options for each of the most well-liked design styles, so you can be real creative in replacing the old furniture with the new pieces.

Once the new pieces are delivered, you can play around with the placement of the furniture in the living room. While the feel of the room will be changed by the new furniture itself, the placement of the pieces will also give a new feel to the room without going far from the original design. Have fun with the placement of the pieces but stay within the guidelines of your individual room’s style.

Dining Room and Living Room Furniture

January 30th, 2011

The two most important rooms in your home are the dining room and the living room. These are the two rooms that you and your family will spend the most time in. So when picking furniture, spend a little more time to pick out the right furniture. Make sure that everything looks and feels right to you.

Dining room furniture.

The center piece for the dining room is your dining table. There are many different types of dining sets to choose from. Your choice will depend on the number of people sitting at the table at any one time, and the space you have in your dining room. You also need to think about where you want to place the dining set.

If you have little space, you can place the table against the wall. This allows for space for walking. This arrangement is ideal if you are living in a small apartment. But bear in mind that if you do that, you are reducing the number of seats by at least two. For some families, they choose this arrangement because they don’t really need all the 6 seats. If guests arrive, they can easily shift the dining table to the middle of the room.

If you wish the table to be in the middle, you can choose a round table. A round table can easily accommodate 5 to 6 people, depending on the size of the table.

Once you have decided on the table, it’s time to choose matching chairs. While it’s true that most dining sets come with matching chairs, you may still find that the chairs are not to your liking. In this case, you will need to buy separate chairs that match with the dining table. When choosing chairs, pay more attention to comfort.

Living room furniture.

As for the living room, the center piece is obviously the sofa set. Usually, when guests arrive, their attention is attracted to the sofa. So be sure to choose something that fits into the overall design of your home.

Young couples tend to choose more modern looks. For instance, you tend to find L-shaped sofas instead of traditional looking leather sofas. The cushions also have a tendency to be of brighter colors (like red, yellow or orange).

Mature couples tend to go for classic or contemporary designs. Rattan or teak furniture are popular choices. Such furniture looks simple and elegant, and can last for many years. They also require very little maintenance.

The issue of durability should always be at the back of your mind. Do you intend to use the furniture for just a few short years, or for the long term? For instance, if you live in a rented apartment, more affordable furniture that is made from synthetic rattan or plastic may be ideal.

For the sake of consistency, most homeowners will choose just one theme, and then find furniture that will match that theme. That way, you can use similar furniture for both the living room and the dining room.

Five Tips For Choosing Living Room Furniture That Lasts

January 30th, 2011

In years past, buying furniture was relatively easy. You would head to the local furniture store, pick out one you liked, and then lug it home via any method possible. Now, furniture comes in various shapes and sizes, not to mention levels of quality. You can literally buy furniture in person or online. You can buy standard furniture, cookie cutter furniture, or furniture that costs more than your car. The choices are many and this confuses a great many furniture shoppers. How can you muddle through the options and find the right furniture that will last? That is the key, after all. Finding the furniture that you can be happy with for a long time is the primary goal when you go furniture shopping. Here are five tips to give that living room furniture a bit longer shelf life, and keep your pockets full of your own savings.

Consider RTA Sectionals

RTA, which is usually called ready to assemble, has a bit of a bad name in some circles. The truth is, the vast majority of the RTA market is cheaply made, and will not last long at all. What people do not realize, however, is that there are custom made options within the RTA market. They make solid sectional sofas, sleeper sofas, couches, love seats, ottomans and even chairs. Many people are realizing that these wonderful custom made RTA options are the perfect way to get the advantages of sectional sofas, without having to pay an inflated price.

Sectional sofas offer you plenty of design options, which in turn will give your furniture a longer shelf life. The custom made RTA sectional sofas offer solid oak and ash wood frames that are guaranteed for life. That is a pretty good indication of quality, and they are gorgeous to look at. Best of all, you can arrange them in all kinds of different configurations, keeping your design fresh. Look into these custom made sectional RTAs before buying – you will be glad you did.

Go for Neutrals

Most people agree that buying neutral colors will allow you flexibility. If you buy that hot pink sofa, it might look like a million bucks for awhile. Eventually, you will want to reclaim your sanity and wish you had gotten a nice earth tone. Neutral colors are easy to maintain and will give you a lifetime of choices in your accessories. This means you do not have to change sofas every time you change decors.

Go for Quality Over Price

Quality should be your primary concern with living room furniture, and in particular in the RTA field mentioned above. You should make sure that the furniture is made from high quality materials, and that they stand behind their products. We all know that saving a few bucks at the point of purchase is nice, but you should not let that trump quality. Why buy ten sofas cheaply for the price of one good one that costs a bit more? Pay the extra money for a custom made RTA piece of furniture and you will be happy that you did.

Measure Your Furniture Before You Buy

More money has been lost due to furniture that has not been measured than perhaps any other mistake. Get out that measuring tape and check out the height, width, depth and even weight of your furniture before you buy it. Check those figures against your space at home and visualize it there. Consider your plug ins, windows and dead space. All of these things should affect your decision. If you buy online, then make sure you speak with someone in person to verify that you are getting the right measurements.

Use Slipcovers

The advancements in slipcovers in the ready to assemble furniture market have been phenomenal. You can now completely alter your furniture without having to buy a new one, and enjoy a new decor in minutes. This can extend the life of your living room furniture, and keep your hard earned money in your pocket. Custom made ready to assemble furniture has more slipcover options than you could ever go through, and you will be shocked at how attractive they are.
