Food Connections
SCA is working with the Cape Ann Food Pantry, the Food Project – North Shore and the Green Thumbs Youth Project, to create a strong, vibrant, sustainable and integrated local food system that makes locally produced, affordable, and nutritious food available to all. We are currently planning a collaborative fundraiser and educational event at City Hall for September 16, 2007. Entitled “Food Connections and Solutions,” the event will bring together 200 stakeholders from our local food system, including farmers, restaurant-owners and consumers.Learn More.

2020 by 2012
Sustainable Cape Ann and the Cape Ann Climate Change Network are bringing the possibility of greater energy independence to homeowners, businesses and municipal leaders through a joint initiative called 20/20 by 2012. The objective of 20/20 by 2012 is to inspire and support Cape Ann’s municipal governments, businesses and residents to reduce their total energy use by 20% and to secure at least 20% of their remaining energy needs from renewable sources by 2012. The first two steps involve taking a pledge to work toward fulfilling the objectives of 20/20 by 2012, and calculating your baseline carbon footprint with an easy-to-use web-based tool developed by the Cape Ann Climate Change Network. This tool allows individuals, businesses and government partners to track their individual and collective progress.
Buy Local Coupon Book Project
SCA and the Cape Ann Business Incubator have once again joined together — this time to create the “Where the Locals Go” Buy Local Coupon Book. Our objective is to encourage Cape Ann residents to support our local economy by purchasing more of the goods and services they need from locally owned businesses — ensuring that more of our consumer dollars are circulating and sustaining our Cape Ann communities. Response to this initiative has been amazing and to date, over 70 local businesses have already committed to provide valuable discounts to community members through the Coupon Book. Learn More.
CAYAC Cape Ann Youth Asset-Building Collaborative
SCA recognizes that our community’s youth are our greatest asset when it comes to building a better future. We are committed to strengthening our youth in two ways: empowering youth-led initiatives that promote and develop youth leadership; and bringing together organizations dedicated to creating the conditions which our youth need to reach their full potential. Using the 40 Developmental Assets® model (developed by Search Institute), SCA is collaborating with Action Inc. and the North Shore Workforce Investment Board to assess our youth’s experiences in the community and to begin creating the positive dynamics and environments critical to young people’s healthy development.
